With over 19 years of experience in the field, Danielle Annis, the founder of Enlightened K9, has been professionally training dogs since 2006. Throughout her career, Danielle has helped countless dogs of all breeds and temperaments achieve the desired behaviors necessary to thrive in both home and public settings. Enlightened K9’s approach is grounded in the belief that dogs should work for their owners out of trust, clarity, and respect, resulting in a partnership that enhances the bond between human and canine.
Danielle Annis’ Experience
Danielle’s formal training began at It’s a Dog’s World in York, ME, where she continues to teach classes and private lessons. Over the years, she has worked with a wide range of dogs and families, gaining extensive experience in various aspects of dog training. Danielle has taught classes such as Manners 1, 2 & 3, Double Dog, Kids Camp, Canine Good Citizen (CGC), CGC Urban, and CGCA (Advanced), and she is a certified CGC Evaluator.
Danielle’s comprehensive knowledge and years of hands-on experience have made her a trusted professional in the community, helping countless dogs and owners achieve success through structured training.
Training Philosophy
Danielle believes that the clearer the communication between owner and dog, the easier it is for the dog to learn and succeed. This is why Enlightened K9 emphasizes the use of clear cues, whether verbal commands, hand signals, or training tools. While positive reinforcement is at the core of the training philosophy, Danielle also recognizes that tools like e-collars or prong collars can enhance communication when needed, especially when a purely positive approach does not yield the desired results.
By focusing on building a relationship based on trust and respect, Enlightened K9 helps owners create a deeper bond with their dogs, where learning becomes both enjoyable and meaningful.
Training Programs Offered

Leash Walking in Public:
This program focuses on teaching dogs how to walk calmly on a leash in public spaces. Owners learn how to create a partnership with their dog and enjoy walks without pulling or distractions.
Puppy Training:
This foundational program covers essential skills for puppies, including sit, down, eye contact, stay, wait, leave it, loose leash walking, and recall. It’s the perfect start for a well-behaved adult dog.
Off-Leash Training:
For dogs ready to experience the freedom of off-leash activities, this program teaches reliable recall and gives owners peace of mind, knowing their dog will come when called. Danielle uses e-collars to enhance communication, offering freedom for dogs while ensuring they remain under control.
